I Think I Can!

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ...

Many times we are defeated by the biggest bully in our own life ~ our own thoughts! Our minds can trick us and make us believe we cannot do something before we have had a chance to try. We see it in our small children as they begin to learn a new sport or trying something new. They do not believe they can do it until they begin to try, fail and try again.

Some of us grow up with those same childhood fears of failure and allow our minds to convince us that we are not capable to do it, or learn it or succeed. We all have bully's in our life but many times we ourselves are responsible for allowing the bully in our thoughts to win. God clearly shows us in the scriptures that ALL things are possible with Him. Trust God instead of the bully in your head and see what a difference it can make in your day!

Teach Respect

Recently I heard someone criticizing a parent to a child because of a situation that the child had shared with this individual. I cringed as I heard the conversation because here was an adult feeling they were doing that child a favor by being critical of the parent. The child was complaining and the adult was affirming the complaint. Later that day that same child decided to share with me that same story. After she shared her story of complaint I let her know how sorry I was to hear that but that I wanted her to know how important it was for every child to honor and respect their parents even though they don't feel they deserve it. I shared the following verse:

Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise—  “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.

How many times have we heard divorced parents criticize the other spouse to their children. I have heard people complain to their mates about their in-laws. We hear young people complain constantly about their parents. I have also heard parents making fun of grandparents in front of their children.

These scriptures are so important to share in these circumstances if you want someone to have a blessed life instead of a cursed life. We need to be encouraging and teaching in our words how to live a life of happiness and blessing!

Love Is An Action

1 John 4:7  Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.

If you say that you love someone and yet talk about them behind their back then your actions do not show love at all. A red flag should go up anytime we hear someone being critical of someone else. That is what they do to us when we are not around.

A lot of us think that we are good people because we don't break the commandments. I find that most people don't even know the 10 commandments. Some of us could recite them but do we really understand what they mean. The two most important commandments are Love God and Love Others. If we are not able to grasp those two then what makes us think we are okay with the rest of the list?

It's easy to love those that are lovable and difficult to love those that are not so lovable. Don't go by your feelings but instead by your actions. If you have someone in your life who is not so lovable are you being critical of them to others with your words? Are you just tolerating them because you have to? Those are actions that have more to do with hate than love. What actions can you do to show love to those who you find unlovable? God will provide a way for you to do this in their life if you will just ask Him. Don't miss out on a great blessing by doing what God has done for all of us on the cross. †
